It feels good to be 1

Well my first birthday party was a total success. My dad did a crab boil that everyone loved so much we ran out of food! I feel bad for the people who had to eat hamburgers and hot dogs, but that's what you get for being polite.

We had it all...pirates, a pinata...

...and some really delicious cake that my Aunt Amy made for me.

Good news and bad news

First, the good news: I am a skater girl already! To heck with girls who lurk, I ride, son. Check out my funky style (or, possibly: gang signs).

Now, the bad news...

(Which is really sort of good news too). It looks like we're staying in Chicago for one more year. My mommy asked her school district to extend her leave, which she's really hoping they'll say yes to. She says she really wants to go back to teaching, but she's having too much fun working from home with me right now! Which means I really feel like this inside:

It's bad news because I won't get to hang out with Hudson and Lillian and Logan & Ava and all the new babies arriving later this summer and year. But it's great news because I get to hang out with my Mimi & Poppi and Grandma and Grandpa and my aunts and uncles and cousins. And my mom and dad said we're gonna go on vacation and hopefully get to spend some time on the NJ beaches...it'll be my first "shore summer"! Plus I hope that lots of people will come visit us in Chicago this year...why not? My Aunt Amy is a GREAT tour guide and chef and she'll totally hook everyone up if they come. Plus the city can be a lot of fun...I've heard. My mom said I can go play in the sprinklers at Millenium Park next time it gets hot out!

My first barefoot walk in the grass

My mom always says, "there's a first time for everything." Let's not forget all the first time (and old time) Dads out there. Happy Father's Day to my dad! And Hudson's dad, Lillian's dad, Vin & Christian's dad, Logan & Ava's dad, Charlie & Sammy's dad, Quincy & Sela's dad, as well as Baby Haase's dad-to-be, Baby Weber's dad-to-be, and Baby Denmark's dad-to-be...am I forgetting anyone? There sure are a lot of dads out there now.

I'm sure you all think your dad is the greatest dad on Earth...as do I. So let's just agree that ALL our dads are the greatest dads...forgetting for one day that the word greatest is usually a comparison among things and therefore only one thing can actually BE the greatest...at least, that's what my mom says. But she studies words and stuff. The rest of us can just be glad we have the greatest dads.

When you can walk the walk...

...you don't have to talk the talk! (Which is good because I haven't quite mastered that talking thing yet.)
